Daisy Crochet Blanket

Time to introduce you to my hobby, crochet. I learned to crochet when my second daughter was a newborn and it kept me sane. This blanket is one of my favorite creations and I would like to share it with you!

Materials:

You can definitely switch these up for your preference – if you’re a beginner I highly recommend the below. I am always happy to answer questions!

  1. Pink Yarn
  2. White Yarn
  3. Yellow Yarn
  4. 5.5 mm Crochet Hook (this is a really cute set that also includes stitch markers, sewing needles, and a storage case – you will need these things for this project)
  5. Scissors, whatever you have at home is probably fine.

If you are a complete beginner, watch this reference video to determine how you will hold your yarn.

I did not specify how much yarn because that truly varies depending on the size of blanket you are going for. I recommend just buying one or two of each color at first, you will need WAY more pink yarn than yellow yarn so I usually wait until I am getting close to out.

This link is a great video tutorial for a daisy granny square – I am not sure if our methods are exactly the same but they should be close.

With the yellow yarn:

You will want to make a magic ring with 12 double crochets. If you are just starting out, watch this YouTube video that I found really helpful. There are tons of videos on this so find one that explains it best for you! The magic ring is one of the hardest skills in crochet, so don’t let it get you down.

After you make the 12 double crochets, go ahead and fasten off. In the next step, you will weave in the end as you crochet. It will make sense later!

You will need to make one of these for each square. I made one full square to measure the size and get an estimate on how many I would need and then just made all of the yellow centers I would need before moving on to the next step. Find what works best for you!

With the white yarn:

Start in the stich that you ended in previously, you will hold both the end of the white yarn and the end of the yellow yarn as you go so it weaves in with your stitches. I usually make the first stitch to hold them and then tie them in a knot for extra security, then continue with weaving in. Skip to about halfway through this video for a better idea of what I am saying.

You will need to make 12 popcorn stitches with three chain stitches in between around the yellow circle. Then fasten off, we will weave these in the same way we did the yellow yarn.

With the pink yarn:

This is where things change a little, I think this step is definitely the easiest.

Instead of working in a stitch, you will be working in the gaps between the popcorn stitches. You will follow a three step pattern four times to complete your square.

first step: make three half double crochets in one gap

second step: make three half double crochets in the next gap

third step: make three triple crochets in the next gap, chain two, then make three more triple crochets in the same gap.

Repeat this three more times and fasten off.

Now, just sew all your squares together! There are a million different ways to do this – your best bet is to just search YouTube and find the look you want.
